The Developments of the Competition Law in Macedonia (2014 until Today)

This article discusses the developments in the competition law of Republic of Macedonia with regard to the developments in the area of antitrust, abuse of dominant positions, concentrations, and state aid. The discussion is primarily focused in the legislative framework of the developments as well as in the relevant case law during the time period 2011-2015. 

In this article, an effort will be made to provide a general overview of some of the most important cases. In addition, this article will also to a certain extent discuss the progress made in the area of State aid. Last but not least, having in mind that competition law is also relevant area of reform required for the EU accession of R.M., the annual “progress reports” issued by the EU Commission regarding R.M. dealing with competition will be also addressed in this article.

Challenges of Protecting Intellectual Property Rights Related to Pokémon Go

Virtual games indeed ruled the year 2016 and Poke mongo in particular dominated every walk of life throughout the year as the fever to catch poke mongo went viral throughout the places where the game was introduced selectively. Although its live and interactive involvement of participants was appreciated for the its novelty, courts that enforces laws at regional, global and local level are worried that the existing laws cannot safeguard the intellectual property rights of the game as the existing laws are unable to protect it. The study suggests the need for revision of IP laws in this regard.

Intellectual Property Rights and Performance of Start-ups

What is the basic tenet of intellectual property rights (IPR) including patent system in each country? Patents combine incentives for the production of technological knowledge with incentives for diffusion of that knowledge. This review paper deals with intellectual property rights and growth of start-ups. 

There is no exaggeration that intellectual capital is more important than physical capital in globalized and knowledge based societies. Most countries have been interested in facilitating start-ups and growth of them as a way of job creations. Those who claim that the patent is inevitable for creation new venture have been likely to see a patent at an insurmountable hurdle.
